There are lots of things happening in Scarborough, Whitby and the areas surrounding Ravenscar throughout the season. Check them out below

Stephen Joseph Theatre (SJT), Scarborough 01723 370541

84 out of 90 of Alan Ayckbourn's play premiers happened here. Two theatres (one in the round - the first in England founded in 1955), and one also doubles as a cinema. There is an on-site restaurant for pre-show dinner. See the website for the vast selections of plays/shows/films on throughout the year

Scarborough Spa, Scarborough 01723 376774 

The Spa has the theatre and the grand hall and both venues are extensively used for shows of many kinds. There is also a cafe/bar/bistro on site. There are far too many productions to list so please see the website for what's on this season own Scarborough Castle and Whitby Abbey and there are many members events and family events happening throughout the year. Filey Pop-up Gallery Throughout the season, the gallery hosted by four different artists from 3 generations of family. Lots of different types of art on display. Outdoor area for dogs too

MAY 2024

Malton Food Market - every second Saturday in the month. Specialist food stalls, street food, music and bags of foodie fun

Yorkshire Game & Country Fair - 18th and 19th May in Malton

Whitby Fish & Ships Festival -18th and 19th May

Scarborough Castle & Kids Rule and Whitby Abbey & Kids Rule - 25th May-2nd June. Children's activity events

Scarborough Castle - 26th May 'Big Day Out' with workshops, dancing, mini archaeological mini digs, tours of the castle and storytelling

Ravenscar Treasure Hunt - 26th May on the Cleveland Way. Apx 2 hours of fun for families with children 7+ using National Trust GPS units to discover hidden boxes. Just turn up at the National Trust Centre in Ravenscar 10.30am-2.00pm

Malton Food Lovers Festival - 25th-27th May. A giant celebration, a huge gourmet street party with over 100 stalls and street food vendors, talks, demos etc.

Scarborough Fringe - 21st-30th June featuring theatre, music, comedy spoken word, children's shows and a variety of other events and performances. Some free events and some ticketed in many venues throughout Scarborough. See for more details

JULY 2024 

Scarborough Open Air Theatre - Monday 1st - Gregory Porter, Friday 5th - Rick Astley, Saturday 6th - Fatboy Slim, Sunday 7th - Paul Weller, Thursday 11th - JLS, Friday 12th - Madness, Friday 26th - James

Peasholm Park Naval Warfare - Battle of Peasholm - 1st July-2nd September. On Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, doors open at 2pm, music from 2.30pm and battle at 3pm. Cost £4.50 and £2.50 (adult and child). The boats recreate some serious tensions during the battle. This show has been running since 1927 and uses 20ft battleships (some man-operated from inside). Aircraft now also feature in the battle

Filey Regatta - 13th and 14th July - Annual display from Filey's sailing club

Seafest - 18th and 21st July, Scarborough Pier. Music, rides, childrens' activities, stalls and food and drink, all rounded off by a fireworks display on the Saturday night

Cock o' the North - 20th-21st July - Motorcycle races at Oliver's Mount, Scarborough

Distillery Open Day - 27th July at Spirit of Yorkshire, Hunmanby Masterclasses, pairing, delicious food and live music, as well as tours of the distillery throughout the day. £15 per ticket


Scarborough Open Air Theatre  - Friday 2nd - Bill Bailey, Thursday 8th - Korn with Wargasm & Loathe, Thursday 29th - Becky Hill, Saturday 31st - Busted

All the local shows are agricultural shows with many displays, stalls and competitions

Osmotherley show - 3rd August, Northallerton

Thornton-le-Dale show - 7th August, Pickering

Danby show - 14th August, Danby

Egton show - 21st August, Whitby

Headland Music Festival - 23rd-26th August, Scarborough. Beer and music festival for all the family

Yorkshire Traction Engine Rally - 31st August-1st September, Scampston Hall, Pickering. Traction engines from all over the UK, display of vintage/classic cars, motorcycles etc., motorcycle stunt team, fairground rides and lots for the children, as well as catering


Scarborough Open Golf Week - 1st-6th September. Founded in 1921 this seventeen competition event is held at four different Yorkshire Coast golf courses

Scarborough Goldwing Light Parade - 14th September. Goldwing motorcycles sporting neon lights come from all over the UK. The parade culminates in a firework display in the South Bay at apx. 9pm
